Antifascist Feminist Volunteer Work Stay at the Site of the Former Uckermark Youth Concentration Camp and Later Extermination Site / August 19-28, 2024
There will be another Volunteer Work Stay at the Uckermark Concentration Camp Memorial Site in 2024. We would like to spend time together on the memorial site building and repairing where necessary, as well as engaging with the history of the concentration camp and the survivors’ stories. This year, the Volunteer Work Stay will take place fromAugust 19th to 28th, 2024.
All women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender individuals 18 or older are invited to spend nine days learning about the memorial site, engaging with the history of the place and antifascist remembrance politics, as well as contributing to self-organized construction and repair projects. It is important to us that as many participants as possible can stay for the entire period. We reserve spots for people who have experienced classism*. We also want to address the topic of classism at the work stay.

Following the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, the extent to which open hatred of Jews is currently on display has reached a new dimension, also in Germany.

The commemoration ceremony will take place at the memorial stone, centrally located on the site.

Prior to the commemoration ceremony, we will provide a guided walking tour of the memorial site in German (please register at: initiative@gedenkort-kz-uckermark.de). The tour will start at the turn-off from the Berlin-Copenhagen bike route towards the Uckermark Memorial Site, directly behind the Ravensbrück Memorial Site. It will end near the memorial stone.
How to get to the Uckermark Memorial Site
Both Memorial Sites, Uckermark and Ravensbrück, are located about 90 km (56 miles) north of Berlin. The nearest train station is Fürstenberg/Havel on the Berlin-Stralsund line. The most convenient way to get from the Fürstenberg station to the Uckermark Memorial Site is by bike, however it is also possible to walk there (approx. 45 minutes).
From the “Ravensbrücker Dorfstraße,” follow the signs for the “Mahn- u. Gedenkstätte Ravensbrück.” After the “Fürstenberg” town sign, turn right on “Himmelpforter Landstraße.” Continue along that road – you will be walking/riding/driving alongside the Ravensbrück Memorial Site – until the beginning of the bike path to Himmelpfort (that is the Berlin-Copenhagen bike route). Take the turn-off and follow the signs to the Uckermark Memorial [“Gedenkort Uckermark“]. From here, it is approx. 1.5 km to the memorial stone. The event organizers reserve the right to exercise their property rights and to deny access to or exclude from the event persons who belong to right-wing extremist parties or organizations, who belong to the right-wing extremist scene or who have already made racist, nationalist, antisemitic or other dehumanizing statements in the past.
Attention!Due to rail replacement services between Berlin Südkreuz and Oranienburg, it is currently not possible to take bicycles with you.We will endeavor to pick up visitors from Fürstenberg station if the walk is too long for them.We ask those who have registered for the tour at 1 pm to let us know by e-mail if they need a shuttle: initiative@gedenkort-kz-uckermark.de Please check the railroad website for the current situation. We look forward to seeing you and will do our best to support you from Fürstenberg.
